The Postgraduate Institute of Management Alumni was inaugurated in 1983 under the name “Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Management (SLAAM)”. The foundation for the Association was laid by the first batch of MBAs / MPAs under the guidance of Dr. Gunapala Nanayakkara, who was the Director of Postgraduate Studies in the Faculty of Management Studies at Sri Jayewardenepura University at that time.
The first activity of the Association was to conduct two international seminars on “Management in a Socio Cultural Context” in collaboration with the German Cultural Institute and the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The first president of SLAAM was Mr. Kingsley Wickremasuriya and Mr. S. A. C. M. Zuhyle succeeded him.
The Association (SLAAM) was revived and its name was changed to PIM Alumni (PIMA) in 1993 to give it a new identity. The first president of PIM Alumni Association was Mr. H. Jeganathan and Mr. Dudley Boyagoda succeeded him in the following year. Since then the PIMA has been rolling over with new faces being elected every year to its leadership for its perpetual success.
