Appointment of 10 supervisors from PIM Alumni for the supervision of ‘skills projects of PIM MBA’.

The new director PIM, and Patron PIMA, Dr. Kelum Gamage took the first step towards a new initiative, in selecting 10 supervisors from the PIM Alumni, for the supervision of ‘Skills Projects of the PIM MBA’.

This was certainly putting words into action, when he stated that “PIMA will be a key partner in PIM’s journey of realizing its vision of becoming a thought leader in business management and it is essential for PIM to enable students and learning partners to constantly engage in professional career development – PIMA will be a significant partner in this endeavor. PIMA is our strength – having qualified leaders of the business field is a pillar on which we can build upon.” during his speech at the ‘New Director Welcome event’ that was organized by PIM Alumni.

PIM called for applications from the members of PIM Alumni, to work as external supervisors for management field projects of the general MBA program. Subsequently an induction cum orientation programme was conducted for the 10 selected industry-experts from the PIM alumni, on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Institute. Those selected were, Mr. Bade Jayalath, Dr (Mrs). Viruli de Silva, Mr. Murtaza A. Tajbhoy, Mr. Kithsiri De Silva,

Mr. Nambi Nambiyarooran, Mr. Malindu Hapuarachchi, Mr. Wasaba Jayasekera, Mr. Suranga De Silva, Mr. Chaminda Gunawansha and Ms. Lakmali Priyangika

The objective was to tap their expertise to guide the Institute’s MBA students in their final projects. As these experts themselves had undergone the rigor of completing the final projects in their postgraduate studies, the PIM considered as most apt to tap their expertise to mentor the current MBA students towards producing impactful projects that will be of value both to the PIM and their respective organizations alike.

While this PIM-PIMA collaboration dawned a new chapter in both the organizations working in reciprocity, it was, indeed, an innovative approach, as the Institute rightly considered that the PIMA was the closest in accomplishing the Institute’s academic pursuits. A further advantage of this great combination was the PIMA’s ability to tap the desired expertise from both public and private sectors, as the students represented both these sectors. These experts were fully aware of the challenges that organizations faced due to the pandemic-threat.

Dr. Kelum Gamage, Director, PIM, expressed the vital role, that PIMA is destined to play in the affairs of the parent organization as the PIM solicits the services of specialists who are readily available in their pool of resources. Dr. Trevor Mendis, Head of academic affairs, PIM, highlighted the increased number of projects related to issues created by the pandemic, and the importance of the PIM’s role in responding to this need.
