5Sunil G Wijesinha is a qualified engineer, an accountant, and a qualified productivity practitioner, with a Masters’ degree in Business Administration. He has been a proponent of productivity techniques and Japanese Management for many years. He has followed several training programmes overseas, in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, UK, and Sweden. His work in promoting productivity in Sri Lanka was recognised by the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) and was awarded the National Award 2000. He was also conferred the Regional Award for his work in promoting productivity in the Asia Pacific Region.

He has presented papers, invited as a Keynote Speaker, and invited as Chief Guest in several Asian countries. He is a much sought after speaker at seminars, conferences and panel discussions in Sri Lanka.

Sunil Wijesinha is currently the Chairman of United Motors Lanka PLC and Watawala Plantations PLC, and on the Board of Directors of Siyapatha Finance PLC.  Previously he has held the positions of Chairman, Employees Trust Fund Board, Chairman and MD of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC, Chairman of Merchant Credit of Ceylon Ltd, DNH Financial Services (Pvt) Ltd, NDB Bank, and Managing Director, Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka PLC. He has served on many Boards in the public and private sector and is the Immediate Past President of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.

He was the founder President of the Ceramics & Glass Council of Sri Lanka of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity. He was a former President of the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) and introduced the Taiki Akimoto 5S Award. He has introduced many productivity and Japanese Management Techniques in several of the organisations he worked in and has introduced these techniques to many of his consultancy clients.

Mr Wijesinha has been involved in the formulation of many award schemes in Sri Lanka, and took the lead in reformulating the National Productivity Award in 2002, and in reformulating the National Business Excellence Award of the National Chamber in 2013. He initiated JASTECA’s Taiki Akimoto 5S Award and the Nagaaki Yamamoto Kaizen Award, and formulated the evaluation schemes. He also assisted the Tamil Nadu Alumni Society of AOTS to formulate the AOTS-CUMI  5S award. Mr Wijesinha has also visited the National Institute of Standards and Technology of USA – the organisation which administers the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and SPRING Singapore which conducts the Singapore Productivity Award and was briefed on their methodology.
